SEDS hosted its first-ever Research Week

The School of Engineering and Digital Sciences hosted its first-ever Research Week from April 10-14. This event was scheduled to align with the Day of Science Workers of Kazakhstan, an annual celebration on April 12. Research Week kicked off with an opening ceremony of SEDS Research project exhibition, graced by the presence of the Provost, the Dean of the School, faculty members, and students.

The week-long event was packed with various activities, and one of the event's highlights was the SEDS Research project exhibition. Over five days, SEDS professors with their students showcased a total of 41 projects spanning across 7 disciplines: Environmental Engineering, Materials and Energy, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Additive Manufacturing, Computational Methods and Modeling, and Computer Science with a focus on machine learning and AI. This showcase provided a unique opportunity for attendees to engage, exchange ideas, and delve into the latest research developments within SEDS.

Many talented students were able to network with potential employers at the research assistant job fair and be informed about exciting research opportunities.

SEDS represents, during a range of info-session and workshops, shared information about graduate academic programs and the research opportunities available at SEDS's six departments. Apart from that, there were presentations from the University's research centers, such as NU ISSAI (Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence) and NURIS Fab Lab (Fabrication Laboratory), where guests got a glimpse of their unique projects. They also got a unique chance to visit SEDS's over 10 research laboratories, where scientists conduct experiments and make breakthroughs.

The week ended with a SEDS Talk intellectual evening where top professors shared their unique ideas on how to succeed academically. The event was likened to a TED-style talk. Throughout the evening, professor Woojin Lee, Maria Tsakalerou, Akhan Almagambetov, and Atakan Varol presented various inspiring, informative, and thought-provoking topics that sparked a lively Q&A session.
