The School of Engineering and Digital Sciences at Nazarbayev University (NU SEDS) held its second annual Research Week to commemorate Kazakhstan Scientific Workers Day on April 12th. The week-long event, running from April 8th to April 12th, showcased the school's dedication to fostering research.
The event began with an opening ceremony and a research projects exhibition in the Upper Atrium, presenting 70 research projects in five strategic research directions.
Afterwards, a lecture from SEDS Acting Vice Dean for Research, Shazim Memon, offered attendees valuable guidance on how to get published in top journals.
SEDS's five departments hosted seminars on following days exploring current projects and opportunities for further research, featuring different topics.
On April 10th, both the Three Minute Thesis (3MTĀ®) competition and the Student Research Excellence Award were organized for the first time, recognizing the achievements of emerging scholars. Additionally, on April 11th, SEDS Talk brought together four professors for engaging discussions. Traditionally, four NU SEDS professors transcended the boundaries of academia, revealing their captivating human stories. This year's speakers at the event were Professor Mert Guney discussing "Want impact? Do less, but better"; Professor Gulnur Kalimuldina on "Fusion of Materials Science and Machine Learning"; Professor Cevat Erisken addressing "How to engineer body tissues?"; and Professor Matteo Rubagotti sharing insights on "Robot motion planning and the meaning of life."
The event concluded on April 12th with Shazim Memon's final lecture on mastering journal and author metrics, providing a comprehensive overview of the week's academic pursuits.
