SEDS’s ChME Students Club - NU AIChE Successfully Hosted Its First-Ever Hackathon, Uniting 140 Innovators

The NU AIChE student chapter of the Chemical and Materials Engineering program at the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences (SEDS) successfully organized its first-ever hackathon, REACTHON, this past weekend. The event attracted 29 teams and approximately 140 participants from NU SEDS, NU SMG, and NU SSH, representing various academic disciplines. Competitors worked to develop innovative solutions for real-world challenges presented by industry partners.

KazMinerals and Yer-Tai, the event’s sponsors, provided engaging case studies for participants to tackle, allowing students to apply their technical expertise to practical industrial problems. The hackathon also received strong support from the university, with Professor Stavros Poulopoulos, Chair of the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department, delivering an inspiring speech to motivate participants. The Department of Student Support (DSS) also played a crucial role in the event’s success.
