NU SEDS Professors Start Summer Research Projects for Kazakhstani High School Students

On June 12, NU started its high school Kazakhstan student internship during Summer. Interested high school and undergraduate students will join research projects led by NU faculty and students during this annual event.

Until June 30, high school students (9-11 graders) will be exposed to research environment in NU SEDS especially related to soil characterization, one of important aspect in Civil Engineering.

Ten high school students out of 128 have been selected for this internship this year. The training aims to introduce the student to research work, develop students' research competence, and introduce Nazarbayev University, which is committed to achieving excellence in research and ensuring that its research contributes to the socio-economic development of Kazakhstan and the region.

The students will work on the development of an Excel spreadsheet for soil characterization under the Department of Civil and environmental engineering. Prof Jong Kim and Assistant Professor Alfrendo Satyanaga will supervise these students, part of the Faculty Development Competitive Research Grants Project "Soil-Water Management System for Sustainable Geotechnical Design in Kazakhstan", 2023-2025.
