On October 7, professors and students of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, led by Chair Essam Shehab, participated in the “World Space Week: Space Technology and Patents” meeting. The National Institute of Intellectual Property (QazPatent) organized the event as part of World Space Week, celebrated from October 4 to 10.
Welcoming greetings to the participants from Vice Minister of Justice Akerke Akhmetova and cosmonaut, National Hero of Kazakhstan, Air Force Major General, Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary” Aidyn Ayimbetov opened the meeting.
The event, the purpose of which was a popularization of scientific-technical and patent-innovative activity in the space industry of the country, united representatives of the industry, such as JSC “National Company “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary,” Joint Stock Company “Republican Center for Space Communication,” KazAeroSpace LLP, “Ghalam” LLP and Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Nazarbayev University. They presented their projects and talked about problems, challenges, and achievements.
In turn, the Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Professor Essam Shehab, Associate Professor Basman Elhadidi, Assistant Professor Yerkin Abdildin, and Yerbol Sarbasov reported on how they train future aerospace engineers at Nazarbayev University.
Essam Shehab presented the Department, the faculty, and the academic programs. In addition, he talked about the opportunities offered to students during their studies, the achievements of graduates and current students, and student organizations specialized in aerospace. In his speech, the head of the Department urged the industry representatives to train the next generation of aerospace engineers together.
“An important component of our academic programs is the Capstone project, designed for students to apply what they have learned in real-world situations. In this case, to keep students connected to the industry, we collaborate with companies such as Air Astana, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and Ghalam. Nevertheless, we provide the knowledge, and they get the practice from you. So to provide Kazakhstan with qualified personnel, we must actively cooperate,” said Professor Essam Shehab.
He also noted that the Department currently has 292 students.
