In the world ranking of young universities, Times Higher Education NU took 106th place.

NU took 106th place in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024 and became the No. 1 university in Kazakhstan! The ranking assesses the quality of teaching, research, international outlook, and industry links of the best universities are 50 years old and less. The list includes 673 young research universities that met the selection criteria of the authoritative rating agency.

According to THE experts, young research universities with half a century of history, like NU, are worthy of special attention from school and college graduates. While they may be younger than the 'old guard' of educational institutions such as Oxford or Harvard, their rapid growth suggests that, all other things being equal, they have the potential to top THE World University Rankings, which uses the same methodology. This potential for future growth and success is an exciting prospect for NU and its students.

Experts also note that the growth of higher education is shifting to the East. The top 10 includes research European and Asian universities: the places are equally distributed—these are the universities of France (4), Singapore (1), South Korea (1), Hong Kong (3), and the Netherlands (1). The majority are funded by the state directly or through various grant programs.

Only NU and Gumilev Eurasian National University from Kazakhstan, founded in 1996, participate in the ranking. Gumilev Eurasian National University was founded in 1996 by merging two Kazakh institutions. ENU in the rating of young universities is in the range of 501-600.

Recall that in September 2023, Times Higher Education released its annual ranking of world universities, where NU entered for the first time and immediately became a leader among universities in Central Asia and the Caucasus. NU ranked in the 501-600 range, placing it in the top 30% of the best research universities worldwide.

According to the data for March 2024, the number of scientific articles of NU exceeded 8,444 - this is about 1/6 of all articles of Kazakhstani universities published from 2011 to 2024 (52,258). During this time, the university published 3,690 articles in Scopus journals of Q1 level (the most cited), one-third of all scientific articles published in Q1 journals by Kazakhstani universities since 2011. Over the last five years, the NU citation index (FWCI) has been 1.49, which indicates that NU publications are 49% more cited than the world average.
